NG
16mm Silent
2021

‘NG’ is a label I’ve been finding on some of Tony Pritchett’s archive footage. It’s a filmmaking term for ‘No Good’. I’ve been having some really inspiring chats about making mistakes and creative flow with artist/filmmaker Bea Haut and have now decided to post this footage.

The image above was shot on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. A long lens and cold weather resulted in awful camera shake.
(The footage was shot in 2015. I’ve since improved my Bolex skills!)

Filming a Scottish island on 16mm is perhaps not the most original idea, but I have an excuse: My first happy childhood memories are associated with the place and following ‘dad’s slideshow’ of the visit.

(I also shot some colour slide film, which came out nice and vivid.) Some if it features here.
